At the start of the last stage on the EU’s territory, the Chainreaction Bikeconvoy for Ukraine was given a warm send-off in Krakow. In addition to the consuls of Germany and Ukraine, the mayor of Krakow also took part and wished the athletes a safe journey.
After 240 kilometres, the convoy reached Przemyśl, where the mayor also welcomed the cyclists. The border town with around 60,000 inhabitants has been a central transfer point for people and goods between the EU and Ukraine since the start of the Russian full-scale invasion.
In Przemyśl, medics from the Ukrainian armed forces were already waiting for the ambulances to be handed over. The handover took place on a highly symbolic date: for the first time, Ukraine celebrated the Day of Remembrance for the fallen medics. Since February 2022, when the Russian aggression began, around 500 doctors, nurses, medical assistants, and paramedics from the armed forces have lost their lives in Ukraine.
